Taking the train to your ski chalet holiday rather than flying or driving has its advantages. Apparantly
it will have a smaller impact on the environment. So you can spend more money on your ski holiday treats and less on reducing your carbon footprint. One report claims that a single short haul flight for one person generates as much carbon as three months driving a 1.4 litre car. In 2006 scientists reported the snow at the world's highest resort of Chacaltaya (5300m) in the Bolivian Andes could disappear altogether within five years due to climate change. The Snowtrain emits just 5.7g of CO2 per person per km, as opposed to the 180g of CO2 emitted per person per km by plane. Even if you don't believe our use of carbon is causing global warming, it's still a good idea to use less fossil fuels becuase they're running out.
Because you travel overnight, you gain an extra day on the mountain. Whilst everyone else is in transfer day hell, and the slopes are empty; except for the odd local who is lucky enough to not work changeover day. Unlike the flight companies, Eurostar do not charge you for taking your skis on the train. You have a flat bed to sleep in, and if you are just too excited to sleep, you can venture down to the sound proofed disco carriage, where you can party all night, buy a drink there, or BYO.
The four main ski areas connected to the UK by the Snow Train are Espace Killy, Paradiski, 3 Valleys, and Mont Blanc ski area.
