Resort Guide to Big White, Canada

With 118 runs, 24 feet of champagne powder each year, thousands of rays of sunshine, and an abundance of high quality ski/ski out properties it can only be called Big White. Take your camera and get some snaps of the enchanting ‘Snow Ghosts’ (snow laden trees) at the top of the mountain.

 

Skiing & Boarding

Enjoy FREE ski guiding with the Snow Hosts who meet each to guide you around the mountain! Added this year to the existing express chairs is the ‘Snow Ghost Express’ 6-man.

 

Beginners

Fantastically designed Big White provides a green run from every lift so that beginners can go virtually any where within the 2500ft of vertical. The Blackforest Express and the Bullet Express has loads of interconnecting blues and greens to keep you entertained all week long!

 

Intermediate

Cruise along the longest run in resort (7.2km) from the top of the T-bar to Gem Lake.

 

Advanced

The four powder bowls are fantastic!
Big White offers 25 km (15.5 miles) of incredible Nordic trails groomed with state of the art grooming equipment for both skate and classic technique.

 

Off Piste

Discover some amazing tree lined runs and remember in Big White you will never be short of fresh powder!

 

Snowboarders

The Telus park has a 500ft long Super Pipe with 17ft transitional walls, a standard 400ft half pipe with 12ft walls, Boarder/Skier-Cross course that can be tuned up to run regional, national, and World Cup events and beginner/intermediate and intermediate/advanced lanes combined with rails and jumps.

 

The Town

Big White is situated on the edge of the Monashee Mountains, a mere 56 km from Kelowna, the largest city in the Okanagan Valley.

Après Ski

 

Snowshoe Sams is definitely the place to be for après ski, also try the Snow Ghost Lounge with live entertainment on the weekends.
On a Monday enjoy a bonfire with free hot chocolate, Tuesday free Bongo, Thursdays and Saturdays there is a carnival night followed by fireworks, and amongst all of this there are movie nights and more!

 

Activities

 

Amongst many of the great activities are: the not-to-be-missed Mega Snow Coaster, Snowmobile tours, Snowshoeing, Horse drawn sleigh rides, Ice skating, night skiing, a Day Spa, Fireworks displays, and carnivals. Open your eyes to the beauty of Big White’s pristine back country with a dog sled tour. 

 

Eating Out

 

Full range of facilities ranging from cafeterias to fine dining. A total of 18 restaurants, cafes and delis, which includes 8 lounges/bars. There is also a small grocery store and liquor store in the village for those who wish to stay in and cook.
The Village Centre has the majority of the restaurants including the The Copper Kettle Grille at White Crystal Inn, which specialises in Canadian cuisine, Snowshoe Sam's, which features a pub downstairs and a restaurant upstairs, where you can sample their signature drink the Gunbarrel Coffee (a flaming shot gun coffee drink!) and the Swiss Bear, which is found below Château Big White, and features primarily European cuisine.
Try also Beano’s Coffee Parlor and downstairs, the Big White Bakery Gem Lake Café, which is found in the Westridge Warming Hut.

 

Ski/Board Tuition

 

You can use the Big White Ski School they have over 100 qualified instructors. Ski, snowboard, telemark. Private and group lessons. Special improvement camps. Kids Ski School voted #1 in Canada. Ladies’ Day, Men's Day. Recreational race camps.

 

Ski/Board Hire

 

Ski Dazzle Ski Shop in Village Centre Mall with a full selection of clothing, equipment and souvenirs. The Village Rider also in the Village Centre Mall features an array of snowboards and related equipment. 

 

Childcare

 

Big White’s Kids Centre was rated it one of the top five in the world by UK’s London Daily Mail! Big White's Tot Town Day Care is unique, exciting and filled with activities and adventures. Children are kept busy with a mixture of indoor play and (weather permitting) outdoor activities. The Tot Town Daycare is for children aged 18 months to 5 years.
There is a cosy day lodge that children can nip into to warm up and the child care is available ‘after dark’ so that you can have dinner on your own if you wish.
